Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026
The short version: nightcase keeps your information on your iPhone. We don't collect it, we can't see it, and we never sell or share it.
Who we are
nightcase is made by Matrix26 LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains how the nightcase app for iPhone handles your information.
What we collect
Nothing. nightcase does not collect, store, or send any personal information to us or to anyone else. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. The app does not send any identifier or usage data to a server run by us.
What stays on your device
To work, nightcase saves the following only on your own iPhone:
- Your cases: tonight's case, the ones you've closed, skipped, or put on the cold shelf, and when
- Cases you write yourself in "your cases"
- Your stakeouts (when they started and how long they ran)
- The evidence Nickel has brought you and the ledger
- The detective name you choose to enter, and your settings
This information is included in your device's own backups (such as iCloud Backup) if you have them turned on. Those backups are managed by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy — we have no access to them.
iCloud sync
If "icloud sync" is on in nightcase's settings, a copy of your desk is kept in your own iCloud account so it can come back on a new phone. iCloud is run by Apple under your Apple Account. We don't run a server for this and we can't see it. You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in nightcase → settings.
Seasonal content
nightcase may check a public file on our website (matrix26.com) for new seasonal cases. This is a plain download, the same for everyone. It does not send your name, your cases, or any identifier about you. Like any web request, it reaches our web host, which may keep standard technical logs (such as IP address) for security; we don't use them to identify you.
Permissions the app may ask for
- Notifications — to send one gentle evening reminder if you turn on "a nudge a day", and to tell you when a stakeout ends. They are created on your phone; nothing is sent through us.
That's the only permission nightcase asks for.
Siri, widgets, and the lock screen
If you add a case with Siri or Shortcuts, use the nightcase widget, or see a stakeout on your lock screen, the information is passed between nightcase and iOS on your device. We don't receive any of it. Siri itself is provided by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Exporting and sharing
nightcase never shares anything on its own. If you tap "export the desk" or share a closed case, Apple's own share screen opens and you choose where it goes. An exported desk is a plain file that you control.
Children
nightcase is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Deleting your information
You can remove everything on your phone by deleting the app. If iCloud sync was on, turn it off in nightcase → settings first; any copy in your iCloud account is stored by Apple under your Apple Account.
Changes
If we ever change this policy — for example, if a future version offers optional crash reports — we'll update this page and the date above before that version is released, and anything like that will be off unless you turn it on. Because we don't collect contact information, we can't notify you directly, so we'll keep this page short and clear.
